Direct Transfer labels are also commonly used for shipping in manufacturing plants. These labels are different from Thermal Transfer Labels in the way the image is put on the paper. Direct Transfer Labels are printed with heat that is generated in the printer. The heat reacts to the paper and an impression is created. Direct Transfer Labels are generally more expensive than Thermal Transfer Labels; although a ribbon is not needed. The impressions created with Direct Transfer Labels is sometimes less clear than that of a standard Thermal Transfer Label. These labels are sometimes sold in smaller diameter rolls, such as 2"-3" outer diameter with a 1" core.
